# Recording a Video The recording workflow from start to finish: loading a script, positioning your iPhone, using the countdown, transport controls during recording, and saving the result. Source: https://teleprompterfocus.com/docs/recording/ Updated: 2026-11-04 QUICK ANSWER ## How do I record a scripted video? Open a script and tap Record with this script, rehearse the scrolling, then tap the camera’s record button. Tap Stop to finish and review the saved take before exporting. To record a scripted video, load a script, rehearse its scrolling, tap Record, and tap Stop when you finish. Teleprompter Focus saves successful takes in its own library, where you can review and export them. ## Start with a script Open **Scripts**, choose a script, then tap **Record with this script** on its detail screen. The camera screen shows your script beside the lens. The prompter is an on-screen reading aid; it does not appear in the saved video. For a new script or an imported file, see [Scripts](https://teleprompterfocus.com/docs/scripts/) and [Importing Scripts](https://teleprompterfocus.com/docs/importing-scripts/). ## Before you record 1. Place your iPhone at eye level and choose portrait or landscape before starting. 2. Choose the front or rear camera and check your framing. A composition grid helps you line up the shot; it is not saved into the video. 3. Check microphone access and record a short test to confirm the sound, especially with an external microphone. 4. Open **Tools → Resume prompting** to rehearse the scroll speed and adjust the text until you can read comfortably. Choose voice-follow if you have an active trial or subscription. 5. Choose any filter or virtual background before the take. These effects become part of the saved video. See [Prompter Controls](https://teleprompterfocus.com/docs/prompter-controls/), [Camera Controls](https://teleprompterfocus.com/docs/camera-controls/), and [Voice-Follow Scrolling](https://teleprompterfocus.com/docs/voice-follow/) for those settings. ## Start the take Tap the record button. Recording and prompting begin after the selected countdown. The default is 3 seconds; capture settings also offer Off, 5 seconds, and 10 seconds. Tap the record control again during the countdown to cancel it. If an upgrade screen appears, the selected script exceeds the free script-length limit. Shorten the script or use a trial or subscription. See [Free Tier](https://teleprompterfocus.com/docs/subscription/#free-tier). ## During the take The elapsed timer shows how long the camera has been recording.**Tools → Pause prompting** controls the prompter separately: pausing the text does not pause the video. Tap Stop to finish the take. Keep the app open and the phone unlocked. Switching to another app or locking the phone can end the take; backgrounding stops recording. Return to the app and check the saved result before recording again. Note The [Apple Watch remote](https://teleprompterfocus.com/docs/apple-watch/) can play or pause prompting and start or stop recording. It does not adjust scroll speed. ## Stop, review, and save Tap Stop and wait for processing to finish. Filters and virtual backgrounds may need processing before review opens. A successfully saved take appears in the in-app Recordings library; it is not automatically added to Photos. Review the video and sound, then choose **Captions** to create a captioned copy or **Export video** to save or share the clean recording. See [Captions and Export](https://teleprompterfocus.com/docs/captions-export/) for both paths. Warning If the app reports a save or processing problem, use the recovery options shown before deleting anything. Do not assume the take is in the library until saving succeeds. ## Check the finished take Play back a short test after changing camera, orientation, microphone, or effects. Check framing, eye line, sound, and any background edges before a longer take. The app does not include trimming or post-record filter changes; export to another editor if you need those edits. To find, export, or delete earlier takes, see [Recordings Library](https://teleprompterfocus.com/docs/recordings-library/). For capture errors, see [Permissions and Troubleshooting](https://teleprompterfocus.com/docs/permissions-troubleshooting/).
