# Importing Scripts Bring TXT or RTF scripts into Teleprompter from the file picker or iOS Share Sheet, with format requirements and recovery steps. Source: https://teleprompterfocus.com/docs/importing-scripts/ Updated: 2026-11-04 QUICK ANSWER ## How do I import a script? Open Scripts → Import → Import file and choose a TXT or RTF document. Review the preview and tap Import, or share supported text or a document to Teleprompter from another app. ## What can I import? Teleprompter accepts **TXT** plain-text files and **RTF** rich-text files. Use RTF to retain formatting such as bold, underline, fonts and colours. PDF, DOC and DOCX files are not supported directly: export a TXT or RTF copy, or copy the text into [a new script](https://teleprompterfocus.com/docs/scripts/). ## Import a file inside the app 1. Open **Scripts → Import → Import file**. 2. Choose a TXT or RTF document in the iOS file picker. Download a cloud file first if it is unavailable offline. 3. Review the title, character count and body in **Import Script**. 4. Tap **Import** to save it, or **Cancel** to leave without importing. 5. Open the saved script and choose **Record with this script**. The picker accepts files smaller than 10 MB. That file-size limit is separate from the [free recording character limit](https://teleprompterfocus.com/docs/subscription/). ## Import from another app 1. In Files, Mail or another app, share a TXT or RTF document. Apps that share plain text can also send text. 2. Choose **Teleprompter** in the iOS Share Sheet. If needed, look under **More** in the app row. 3. Review the script preview and tap **Import to Teleprompter Focus**. 4. Return to Teleprompter and open **Scripts** to find the imported script. The share extension confirms the import within the source app; it does not need to open the main app immediately. ## Bring a script from a Mac AirDrop a TXT or RTF document to your iPhone. Once it is accessible in Files, use the in-app **Import file** picker, or share the file to Teleprompter. Keep the original on your Mac as a separate copy. ## Dropbox, Drive and Word guides The provider buttons under **How to import from another app · Guides** explain sharing from those services. They do not sign in to your account or sync documents. Export a supported file from the provider, then import it through Files or the Share Sheet. ## Check imported formatting RTF carries rich text; TXT does not. Review the preview before confirming and use **Edit** afterwards to adjust the script. The prompter also applies its own readability tuning, so check the camera display before recording. ## If an import does not work - **Teleprompter is missing from Share:** check that you are sharing text or a TXT/RTF document rather than a link or unsupported file. Try the in-app file picker. - **The file cannot be read:** download it locally, verify its format and try exporting a fresh copy. Renaming a DOCX extension to TXT does not convert the document. - **The file is too large:** use a file smaller than 10 MB for the native picker, or split the writing into separate documents. - **Import succeeds but recording is blocked:** check the script character count and your free-tier or subscription status.
