# Getting Started Record your first scripted video on iPhone: choose a script, set the reading pace, check the camera, and save your take. Source: https://teleprompterfocus.com/docs/getting-started/ Updated: 2026-11-04 QUICK ANSWER ## How do I record my first video? Load a script, set a comfortable reading pace and tap Record. Make a short test take first, then tap Stop and check the saved video. ## Before your first take Teleprompter is an iPhone app for reading a script over the camera preview while recording video. It requires iOS 18 or later. Scripts and recordings are stored on your device; you do not need an account. Complete the introduction, then choose a subscription offer or close the subscription screen to use the free tier. Camera access is needed for video; allow microphone access to record sound. Without microphone permission, a take can be silent. You can change permissions later in the iPhone Settings app. ## Free tier and subscription The free tier records scripts up to 1,000 characters without a watermark. This is a text limit, not a fixed recording time. Voice-follow and captions require an eligible trial or active subscription. Check the purchase screen for your local price and trial eligibility. [See subscription and free-tier details](https://teleprompterfocus.com/docs/subscription/) before starting a trial. ## Find your way around The app opens to the camera. **Scripts** opens your library; **Tools** opens camera and prompter settings. The speed control shows a words-per-minute value, or **Voice** when voice-follow is active. **Flip** switches cameras before a take. ## Choose a script You can begin with the starter script. To write your own, open **Scripts → New script**, add a title and body, then tap **Use in camera** to save and load it. For an existing script, open it in Scripts and tap **Record with this script**. To bring in a document, use **Scripts → Import → Import file**. See [Importing Scripts](https://teleprompterfocus.com/docs/importing-scripts/) for TXT and RTF files. ## Record and check your first take 1. Place the phone at eye level and frame yourself in the camera preview. 2. Open **Tools → Prompter settings** and make the text readable. Set a comfortable pace with the words-per-minute control. 3. Check your microphone and make a short test take. Use **Tools → Rec** to choose the countdown; Off starts immediately. 4. Tap **Record**, read your script, then tap **Stop** when finished. 5. Let the app finish saving. Play the take back to check sound and framing before sharing it. Reaching the end of the script does not replace tapping Stop. Prompting and recording have separate controls. ## What to adjust next If reading feels rushed, start with [Prompter Controls](https://teleprompterfocus.com/docs/prompter-controls/). For microphone, lens and effects choices, see [Camera Controls](https://teleprompterfocus.com/docs/camera-controls/). When your take is ready, follow [Captions & Export](https://teleprompterfocus.com/docs/captions-export/).
